Professional Dairy Managers
Elect 2006 Leadership
The Professional Dairy Managers
of Pennsylvania (PDMP) have announced the results of election
for 2006 officers and directors. Logan Bower, Pleasant View
Farms, Blain, will continue in his position as president.
Bower was also re-elected to a second three year term on
the Board.
Other officers re-elected include:
Vice President – Rod Hissong, Mercer Vu Farms, Mercersburg;
Secretary – Randy Huntsman, PA Fair Valley Farms, Martinsburg;
and, Treasurer - Duane Hershey, Ar-Joy Farm, Cochranville.
In the Board of Directors election
Dale Hoffman, Kar-Dale Acres, Shinglehouse, was elected to
his first three-year term, and Dina Zug, Zugstead Farm, Mifflintown,
was elected to a two-year term.
A third generation dairy farmer,
Bower milks 600 cows and farms 650 acres. He also serves
on the Board of the Center for Dairy Excellence, the Pennsylvania
Beef Council, the Perry County Planning Commission, and the
Blain Lions Club.
Hoffman began dairying on a rented
farm in 1972, purchasing his current farm in northcentral
Pennsylvania in 1976. In 1998, he expanded to a new 400 cow,
free-stall setup and milking parlor, to keep his three sons
and daughter involved in the business. In 2004 he added 200
more stalls and a new calf barn. He has served as a Board
member of AgChoice Farm Credit, Potter County Fair, Potter
County Holstein Club and the Potter County Conservation District.
Zug and her husband Art purchased
her parents’ farm in 1979, and currently have about
280 Holsteins and a few Brown Swiss. Active members of the
Free Spring Church of the Brethren, they are also involved
with the Grange. A leader of the Juniata County Dairy Feeder
Club, Zug serves on the Juniata County Extension Board and
on the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council Regional
Promotion Board, Syracuse New York.
Former President and founding
member David Hileman, Hilecrest Farm, Tyrone, completed his
second three year term and was not eligible for re-election.
Directors whose terms continue
include Jeff Harding, Monsanto, State College; Michael Hosterman,
AgChoice Farm Credit, Chambersburg; and, Lisa Holden serving
as Liaison with Penn State University.
Michael Brubaker, Lititz, serves
as executive director of PDMP, and Patricia Heuser, State
College, is business manager.
