2011 PDMP Internship Grant Program Guidelines
 

PDMP Internship Grant Awards

  • Grants awarded by PDMP are in the amount of $2,000.
  • Grants are awarded based on merit as demonstrated by the completed application
  • PDMP reserves the right to determine how many grants are awarded, however, no more than five grants will be made available.

Objectives of the PDMP Internship Grant Program

  • To provide students an opportunity for on-the-farm learning experiences relevant to the student's educational program in an agricultural related major
  • To create opportunities for students to gain practical knowledge, information, and skills about progressive dairy operations
  • To give students experience and exposure to the management and decision making on progressive dairy farm businesses
  • To allow students to learn business planning and business management by shadowing experienced farm managers
  • To develop interest among students in employment and careers on progressive dairy farm businesses
  • To build networks between students and leading producers and agribusiness professionals
  • To make it possible for more farms to provide internship opportunities by supplementing the income they can make available to students

Guidelines for the PDMP Internship Grant Program

  • The PDMP Internship Grant Program is open to any Pennsylvania resident enrolled in higher education in an agriculturally related major.
  • Internship arrangements with the farm are to be made by the student and/or his or her academic advisor. • Applicants may arrange for an internship on a farm outside Pennsylvania, if they choose.
  • Application and all attachments must be typed.
  • All grant applications must be submitted by Monday, November 15. Application deadline extended to Tuesday, February 15, 2011.
  • Award decisions will be made and selected applicants will receive email notification by December 1.
  • A check for the entire grant awarded will be sent to each accepted recipient in May of 2011.
  • All recipients are required to submit a written report of their internship experience by October 1, 2011.

Students who successfully complete an internship and submit the required report may be eligible to apply to PDMP for an additional financial award.
